An expertly orchestrated number of drops of each note will be infused with 30 ml of all-natural 190-proof grain alcohol to make up a standard concentrated Eau de Toilette.

This is also a tremendous opportunity to experience some of the lesser known varieties of essential oils and absolutes that are not commonly available on the mass market.  And you can now accomplish all of this without spending a lot of money!

Base Notes

Base Notes are the first component to be added to a composition, acting as both the longer-lasting notes and often as the fixatives. Usually the last to be detected when first sampling a perfume by nose and the last to be dissipated over the course of the dry-down.  Popular examples include amber, peach tree leaf, oakmoss, or vetiver.

Middle Notes

Middle Notes are the heart of the composition. These are added in sequence second to the base notes to proclaim the main character of the medley, the most prominent notes of the accord, and act(s) as a mediator and conductor facilitating the journey from top to bottom.  You may wish to build an accord based on lavender, rose, jasmine, gardenia or neroli, for example.

Top Notes

Top Notes are the last to be added but first to be detected in a perfume, providing lift, intrigue and establishing the presence and the promise of notes to come, preparing the way for the heart notes. They are also the first to disappear as they pull out the heart and base notes to continue the melodious composition through the dry-down phase. The most notable and familiar top notes are of the citrus variety like orange and grapefruit, but perfumers often wander the spectrum to bright florals and light heart notes.
