Green Tea Absolute Oil (5 mL)

Green Tea Absolute Oil is derived from the leaves of Camellia sinensis, a genus of Camellia through solvent extraction method. Leaves and leaf bud of Camellia sinensis plant are widely used to produce tea. Possessing sweet delicate herbaceous and woody notes, this absolute oil is widely used in aromatherapy. It has also proven beneficial for skin distresses and in stopping the growth of cells that cause cancer.

Green tea absolute lends an Asian gourmand note to perfumes. It is fresh and subtle, slightly citrusy and with apricot overtones.  This dark sticky semi-solid mass is not exactly what you’ll think of as impressive tea note. The diffusiveness if very low and even with dilution in alcohol it only opens up very little. It lends an underlining sweet, slightly fruity (apricot) note with a dry woody base. Its very dark in colour and will make the perfume dyed a very dark green.

Natives of Australia are believed to have used this oil for a long time. This absolute oil also has a long history in aromatherapy as well. During world war two, soldiers used it to treat tropical infections and infected wounds.

HISTORY OF USE

Unlike the many fragrant plants that are used in perfumery, tea is a subtle note without much diffusiveness.

Properties:  Dark amber very viscous liquid

Uses:  used in perfumery to produce sweet-herbaceous notes in certain floral perfumes e.g. jasmin, orange blossom, gardenia, sweet pea, freesia, and to produce new effects in woody or aldehydic perfumes of non-floral type in general

Green Tea Absolute is a “modifier”
This is a personally coined term used to refer to any material that is not appropriate to use a main ingredient for the top, middle, or basenotes of a perfume but is nonetheless, quite valuable in its ability to alter, modify, or in any way, redefine an aroma.

Modifiers allow the perfumer greater variety and will help to create multiplicity of scent even for a limited palette. This makes them quite valuable.

Green tea is light, and allows beautiful exposition in the topnotes of a perfume. Its agreeable harmonizing abilities lend themselves beautifully to the delicacy of Citruses, Violet Leaf, Clary Sage, and Palmarosa (just to name a few notes)

While Green Tea will be most easily accessed in the topnotes of a perfume, it is possible to adapt some of the more sheer middlenotes with Green Tea Absolute.

When added to Palmarosa, Green Tea will create an even fresher, more lemonade like quality. With its healthily uplifting aroma, this particular accord might provide a needed lightness sufficient to lift up a heavier men’s base of cedars, sages, or tobaccos.

Green Tea and Green Cognac is also a lovely combination and will create more diffusion and lift which will not interfere with innate complexity. This makes Green Tea Absolute invaluable to the adventurous perfumer. The subtlety of Green Tea Absolute allows for all sorts of amazingly innovative partnerings. Vanilla, Osmanthus, Labdanum, Linden etc.
